Overtime in Local League Championships
Submitted By CWAEH on Wednesday, February 26, 2014
In the event of a tie at the end of regulation time, there will sudden death overtime in 2 minute periods of reducing numbers of players

Sudden death

1.       2 mins 5 on 5

2.       2 mins 4 on 4

3.       2 mins 3 on 3

4.       2 mins 2 on 2

5.       Shoot out 3 players (both teams go at the same time)

6.       Sudden death shoot out (all players must have shot before the same player can go again)

There are no restrictions on player rotation during the overtime

Penalties during OT

  • If there is a penalty during the 3 on 3 or 2 on 2, a player will be added by the non-penalized team (so a penalty in a 3 on 3 period will result in a player being added to make it 4 on 3)
  • Penalties assessed in one 2 min period will carry over into the next OT period (i.e. a penalty 1 minute into the 5 on 5 means that the penalized team will play 1 minute 5 on 4, then 1 minute 4 on 3)
  • A penalized player will remain in the penalty box until the first whistle after the penalty has finished.  At that time, on ice numbers will be adjusted to be correct for the OT period (i.e. if it is the 3rd OT period, the play resumes with 3 on 3)
  • A player in the penalty box at the end of the 2 on 2 can participate in the shoot out, but not as one of the 3 first skaters
